Welcome to the Journal «HUDPROM: The Ukrainian Art and Design Journal», a platform dedicated to exploring the dynamic and innovative landscape of artistic and design practices in Ukraine. This journal is a testament to the creativity, resilience, and tenacity of the Ukrainian artistic community, and we are thrilled to share its stories, ideas, and perspectives with you.

As we all know, Ukraine is a country with a rich cultural heritage, deeply rooted in its diverse histories, traditions, and people. From folk art to avant-garde movements, from medieval icons to contemporary installations, Ukraine's artistic expressions have always been intertwined with its social, political, and economic transformations.

At the same time, Ukraine's artistic and design scenes are facing complex and multifaceted challenges. The ongoing conflict in Eastern Ukraine has not only disrupted the lives and livelihoods of many artists and designers but also tested the resilience of the country's cultural institutions and values. In addition, the global pandemic has brought new restrictions, uncertainties, and opportunities to the artistic community, forcing it to adapt, experiment, and rethink its practices and audiences.

However, these challenges have also given rise to new forms of artistic and design experimentation, collaboration, and activism, both within Ukraine and beyond. We believe that this journal is an ideal space to showcase these emergent practices and to contribute to a more vibrant and inclusive artistic and design community.

In this journal, you will find a diverse range of articles, interviews, essays, and visual essays that explore various themes, approaches, and styles of Ukrainian art and design. We have also included a special section on the artistic responses to the ongoing conflict, featuring works by artists from different regions, backgrounds, and generations.
