Aims & Scope

HUDPROM: The Ukrainian Art and Design Journal is a peer-reviewed academic publication that features original research in the theory, history, and practice of fine arts, design, decorative arts, illustration, painting, architecture, and related visual disciplines.

The aim of the journal is to provide a platform for scholarly communication among researchers, educators, artists, and theorists engaged in the analysis of artistic phenomena in both contemporary and historical contexts.

The objectives of the journal include:

  • highlighting contemporary approaches in visual art and design;
  • promoting interdisciplinary research at the intersection of art, culture, and technology;
  • publishing reviews of academic publications, exhibition catalogs, textbooks, and monographs in the fields of art and design;
  • supporting the dissemination of academic knowledge in the field of art history within the Ukrainian and international scholarly communities.

The journal welcomes submissions from scholars, educators, postgraduate students, degree seekers, and practitioners whose work is related to visual culture and art and design education.

2. Publishing Model

The journal follows an Open Access publishing model, ensuring that all published content is freely available online without embargo. Articles can be read, downloaded, copied, distributed, and reused with proper citation under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

No article processing charges (APC) are applied. The journal does not collect fees for submission, review, or publication.

All submitted manuscripts undergo an independent double-blind peer review process. The editorial board reserves the right to make the final decision on publication based on reviewer reports and the academic quality of the manuscript.

The journal is published twice a year and accepts submissions in Ukrainian, English, and other languages according to editorial policy. All articles are assigned a DOI and registered via Crossref.

3. Funding

The journal is funded by the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts, which covers all organizational and publishing expenses. As a result, the journal operates under an open access model and does not charge any fees for manuscript submission, peer review, or publication (no APC — article processing charges). All materials are freely available to readers immediately upon publication.

4. Journal History

The journal was founded in 1999 by the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts as a professional academic publication in the fields of art studies, design, and visual culture.

The original title of the journal was “Visnyk of the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts”.

In 2023, the journal was relaunched under the title “HUDPROM: The Ukrainian Art and Design Journal” and migrated to the OJS publishing platform to support international publishing standards and expand its presence in open access systems.
